Helicopter rescue of overdue bushwalker – South East Cape

On Friday morning 17/2/17 Tasmania Police Search and Rescue were contacted by the volunteer park ranger at Cockle Creek. The ranger had concerns for the welfare of a 50 year old Victorian man who had embarked on an off track bushwalk to Southeast Cape.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to search for the man and located him on the coast approximately 5 kilometres south of Fisher Point.

The man had underestimated the difficulty of the walk and was forced to sleep on the rocks overnight. He was tired and sore but otherwise uninjured from the ordeal.

The helicopter rescued the man from the area by hover entry and flown back to Cockle Creek.
