Helicopter rescue, Lake Myrtle

At approximately 1.30  pm on Sunday 17 April 2011 the Tasmania Police Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to assist in the search for two overdue bushwalkers in the Upper Mersey Valley area. 

The helicopter attended and assisted in the search and near the southern end of Lake Myrtle located the two walkers. 

Walking in the area since Thursday they had become disorientated and lost the track. 

One of the walkers was suffering from a medical condition which was preventing her walking further.  They were flown by helicopter to Police at Lake Rowallan safe and uninjured.

The lost people were a 62 year old couple from Liena.
