Helicopter rescue – Cox Bight
At 1:00pm on Thursday 16/2/17, Tasmania Police’s Search and Rescue received a call for assistance from a Victorian bushwalking party on the South Coast Track near Cox Bight.
The walking party had come across a 62 year old German man who had collapsed on the track and had been there for 2 days waiting for assistance.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was activated and winched the man, who was suffering from a medical condition, into the aircraft from the location.
The man was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
If the Victorian bushwalking party had not found the man it is not known how long he may have been in this location in need of assistance.
Tasmania Police would like to remind people embarking on bushwalks in Tasmania to carry some means of communication whether that be a PLB, satellite phone or both.
