Helicopter rescue at Craycroft River

At approximately 5:30pm on 2/2/11 the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) activated the Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter due to the activation of a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB).
The beacon was activated when a 33 year old Claremont man fell on the Farmhouse Creek walking track near the Craycroft River whilst walking towards Federation Peak. As a result of the fall the man dislocated his shoulder and was unable to continue.
The Police Helicopter, with assistance from an Ambulance Tasmania Intensive Care Paramedic, located the man with 3 other males. The helicopter was unable to land but due to the injured man being in button grass he was assisted into the helicopter whilst it was hovering rather than by winching him which may have aggravated his injury.
The man was then flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
