Helicopter crash
At approximately 5pm Thursday 7th February 2013, 4 helicopters were engaged in water bombing on the bushfire at Molesworth.
One helicopter, piloted by a 52 year old Hobart man, crashed into a clearing near the bushfire. Upon escaping the downed aircraft and the nearby bushfire, the pilot was conveyed from the scene by the Tasmania Police Rescue Helicopter to the Royal Hobart Hospital for assessment. The pilot was shaken by the incident but not seriously hurt.
The Air Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has been advised, and an investigation will take place to ascertain the cause of the crash.
