Gunns protest

At about 8am today, Tasmania Police were advised that a man had unlawfully attached himself to a heavy vehicle attempting to enter the Gunns access road at Long Reach.

Police attended and observed the man attached to the under side of a Hazell Bros truck.  He had secured himself to the truck using thumb cuffs enclosed in a metal housing.  The truck was in the process of transporting earth moving machinery onto Gunns land at the time of the incident.

Cutting equipment was used by police to remove the man from the truck.  He was subsequently arrested and conveyed to the Launceston Police Station where he was charged with committing a public nuisance and breaching bail conditions.

The police investigation revealed that prior to the man locking on to the truck a collision had occurred between a smaller vehicle and the truck, causing damage to both vehicles.  No people were injured in the incident.

A female was also arrested in relation to the incident and conveyed to the Launceston Police Station where she was charged with negligent driving, trespass, breach of bail conditions, and aiding the commission of a simple offence.

The truck involved in the incident was delayed for about two hours.
