Grievous Bodily Harm Charges
On 2 November 2012 a 19 day old child was admitted to the Mersey Community Hospital suffering from several injuries.
The baby boy was transferred by air to the intensive care unit of the Royal Hobart Hospital that evening, after examination revealed significant head trauma as well as other injuries.
An investigation was commenced by Western and Southern District Criminal Investigation Branches.
On Monday 5 November 2012 in Hobart, the father of the child, a 23 year old Railton man was charged with causing grievous bodily harm and ill treatment of a child.
The man has been remanded in custody, to appear again on 21 November 2012.
