Greens Beach Burglaries
Between 14/9/2012 and 23/9/2012 numerous burglaries were committed in the Green Beach area. Predominantly, cars were targeted but garages and sheds were also entered. Most of the offences were committed on unlocked cars and poorly locked outbuildings. “The offenders were targeting Ipods, Ipads, Cash, laptops, and firearms. During this period a vehicle was also stolen, the keys were easily located by the offenders, within close proximity to the vehicle,” said Sergeant Glenn Evans, West Tamar Police.
On 25/9/2012 West Tamar Police attended several addresses in the West Tamar Division and located the majority of the stolen property.
Three youths have been identified as being responsible for these matters and are to be proceeded against under the provisions of the Youth Justices Act.
“The number of burglaries could have been reduced had vehicles been locked by their owners, whether parked on the street or in driveways or carports,” said Sgt Evans.
“In addition, most of the vehicles entered had valuables clearly visible. The number of unlocked vehicles containing valuable property was quite concerning to police,” he said.
Police made comment that some owners had taken the time to mark their property which made it very identifiable. “This highlights the benefits of marking your valuable property which makes it easy to identify if it becomes the subject of theft,” said Sgt Evans.
Police seek to remind people that they should be vigilant about the security of their belongings and should not relax their security measures when attending holiday locations.
