Despite concerted efforts to remind drivers of expected behaviours this Easter period, police continue to detect drivers speeding and drink driving.

About 9am today, Glenorchy police detected a 17 year old P plate driver speeding 38kms over the limit in a 50kmh zone at Claremont.  As a result, the driver will receive a penalty of 3 months disqualification, 6 demerit points and $735 fine.

About 11am  police detected a 26 year old driver driving in Claremont who recorded a breath alcohol reading of 0.116, more than twice the legal limit.  In this case the driver advised he had consumed a large amount of alcohol the previous night and had “topped up” this morning.  Police remind motorists that alcohol can take a considerable time to be processed out of the body.  If in doubt motorists should not take a risk and drive.

Officers also detected an unregistered car driving in Glenorchy driven by a 59 year old driver who recorded a breath alcohol reading of 0.062.

“Police officers are out and about over this Easter break and you can expect to be detected if you are not abiding by the law,” said Sergeant Gavin White.
