Fundraising boost in research into childhood illnesses

More than 60 bike riders will this morning leave Cradle Mountain, beginning an epic 420km bike ride as part of a charity fundraiser.

The participants in the Tasmania Police Charity Trust bike ride, will this year be raising funds for Menzies Research Institute Tasmania, assisting with research into childhood illnesses such as:

  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Neurological Repair
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Leukaemia and Lymphoma

Participants are giving up their own time and have each pledged to raise in the region of $500.  The fundraising target is $30,000 and riders are encouraging members of the public to show their support for the ride and the cause.

Riders will leave Cradle Mountain at 09:00 this morning, (FRI 18th NOV) and will make their way to Strahan for their first overnight stop.

The following day the group will ride out from Queenstown to Tarraleah.

The final leg of this epic journey will take the riders from Tarraleah through to Hobart, where they will finish at Strahan Street, North Hobart at 13:00 on SUNDAY.

“The ride has grown in strength, challenges and numbers each year since we started five years ago” said Const. Douglas.

“The change of route via the West Coast has this year proven a huge drawcard for participants and we look forward to the challenges it presents.”

Donations can be made at any Tasmania Police station. Donations over $2 are tax deductable.
