Franklin child struck by motorbike

On Sunday 4 December 2016 at approximately 3.30pm a five year old child was struck by a small unregistered motorbike being ridden by a 17 year old female on the footpath in Franklin.

The child received non-life threatening injuries and is receiving treatment at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

The scene of the crash was examined by Police Crash Investigation and Forensic Services.

It appears inexperience and inattentiveness on behalf of the rider has played a significant part in the cause of the crash.

This comes as a timely reminder of how dangerous these motorcycles can be when not used in accordance with legislation.

The rider has been assisting Police and an investigation is ongoing. Numerous witnesses have already spoken to police at the scene and at this stage no further witnesses are sought.
