Four missing bushwalkers have been rescued from Mt Field National Park in Southern Tasmania this morning.

Two 21-year-old men, a 21-year old woman and a 22-year-old woman, all from Tasmania, contacted police at about 4.15 pm on Sunday after becoming disoriented and lost at the top of Tarn Shelf in the Mount Field National Park.

“Police made contact with the group, who advised they had left the walking track and couldn’t find their way back,” said Inspector Philippa Burk.

The rescue helicopter was dispatched and a land search was conducted overnight, when contact with the group was not able to be maintained.

“Police kept trying to make contact with them, but I understand their phones batteries were low,” said Inspector Burk.

“The good news of today is that all four people have been located alive and well.”

Tasmania Police reminds all bushwalkers to be prepared, and to advise others of their travel plans and intended route.

“We would urge you, if you’re going for a bushwalk, to register your details.”

“When you get up into this terrain the weather conditions can change significantly.”
