Four people in custody in relation to Carlton aggravated burglary

Four people are in police custody assisting with enquiries in relation to an aggravated burglary at Carlton this afternoon.

At 12:50 today, the occupants of a property at Josephs Road, Carlton disturbed two men committing an aggravated burglary at their property. The men fled on foot into nearby bushland before being seen getting into a small blue hatch which left the area at speed.

As a result a number of police units saturated the area at various points around Carlton and Sorell in an attempt to intercept the vehicle. A short time later the vehicle was seen travelling towards Sorell on the Arthur Highway where it was was intercepted by police without incident, as it entered the township of Sorell.

A 24 year old woman from Blackmans Bay, a 27 year old man from Gagebrook, an 18 year old man from Glenorchy and a 17 year old male youth from Chigwell were taken into custody in relation to the aggravated burglary.

Senior Sergeant Troy Hodge stated “Tasmania Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a small blue hatch being driven by a woman with three male passengers in and around the Sorell, Carlton and Dodges Ferry area earlier today.”

Senior Sergeant Hodge stated “There was no danger to the public during the arrest of the offenders and we wish to thank everyone in the area for their patience.”
