Flooding, Esk Highway, Avoca

Tasmania Police wish to advise that due to local heavy rain, flash flooding has occurred on the Esk Highway approximately 8 kilometres west of Avoca.

Flash flooding changes road conditions very quickly; therefore driving to the current condition is required.  Motorists need to take extra caution as heavy rain causes reduced visibility.

The most important safety action to be taken is to slow down.  Inspector John Ward asks that motorists be alert at all times, pay attention to road warning signs that display hazardous conditions; drive with headlights or park lights on at times of poor visibility; ensure your windscreen is clean and is demisted, and wiper blades are in good condition; ensure your vehicle is roadworthy and the tyres are in good condition and are correctly inflated, leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.
