Flood Warning – Derwent River

The State Emergency Service advises information received from BoM indicates that a minor flood level will occur today in the lower Derwent River below Lake Meadowbank with a peak reaching New Norfolk this evening. Current predictions indicate that there may potentially be water across roads and impacting on the low lying areas in New Norfolk.

SES advises the following:

– Listen to the radio for warnings and updates;
– Don't drive, ride or walk through water flowing over roads and bridges and obey all road closure signs;
– As it is school holidays children’s activities around water courses should be monitored;
– Low lying paddocks may be impacted. Farmers should monitor and move stock and equipment as required;
– Strong and dangerous flows may still be a hazard in areas of the catchment;
– Localised flooding in adjacent creeks and surrounding low lying areas is possible.

For road closures refer to the Tasmania Police Community Alerts https://www.police.tas.gov.au/community-alerts/  and for further weather updates refer to BoM web site.
