Between 8pm and 11pm on Monday the 6th December 2010 Tasmania Police will be conducting a flare demonstration and exercise in the region of South Arm between Betsey and Bruny Islands in Storm Bay.

The exercise is part of the Search and Rescue Controllers Course and will involve the detonation of a number of red parachute and hand-held flares at night at sea. They will however be clearly visible to residents in the South Arm and Bruny Island areas and may also be seen from Blackmans Bay.

This media release is to pre-warn members of the public that the demonstration is taking place between those times to avoid unnecessary calls to police alerting us and other emergency services of the distress flares being sighted.
