Fixed Speed Camera project –Midland Hwy, Kings Meadows Link Road, goes live tomorrow
The fourth of eight new fixed speed cameras around Tasmania will go live from tomorrow morning.
The fixed speed camera is located on the Midlands Hwy at the Kings Meadow Link Road will be going live at 10.00am.
“Driver awareness of their speed is increasing all the time. The message is to continue that awareness, not just when you’re near the camera but all the time,” said Senior Sergeant Ian Mathewson.
“The fixed speed cameras are able to operate 24/7 and will free up police resources to undertake other road safety duties, particularly on higher speed rural roads.
“Speed remains the number one factor in fatal and serious injury crashes and our aim is to remind motorists to keep within the speed limit,” he said.
“Police will also continue to conduct regular covert and high visibility patrols and specific road safety operations.
Infringements will be issued for speed offences from 10am Wednesday 30 September 2015.
Tasmania has a network of advisory signs reminding motorists that speed cameras operate within the State.
The eight fixed camera sites will be spread throughout the State in locations that meet several criteria, including a high number of traffic crashes, a higher speed limit and a high volume of traffic. The remaining fixed camera sites will be complete by mid- October.
The $470,000 project, funded by the Road Safety Advisory Council, will make more police available to undertake other road safety duties, particularly on higher speed rural roads.
