The PV Van Dieman has reached the fishing trawler with an injured fisherman on board.

The Van Dieman was called out at 2am this morning to go to the assistance of the fisherman on board a trawler approximately 140 nautical miles east of Tasman Island.

A paramedic and police officer are on board the fishing vessel.  The conditions have worsened to a 6m swell so the patient will remain on the trawler and the Van Dieman will follow it back to Eaglehawk Neck.

The fisherman has a broken leg.

The journey back is expected to take up to 11 hours in the heavy conditions.
