First charges under supply of alcohol laws
Queenstown police have recently concluded an investigation into reports of alcohol being supplied to a youth on private premises.
As a result a 22 year old male from Queenstown will be proceeded against by summons for supplying alcohol to a youth on private premises. This is the first person to be proceeded against under the new section.
Police take this opportunity to remind the public that the amendment to the Police Offences Act, introduced in late 2009 states that “A person must not supply liquor to a youth at a private place unless the person is a responsible adult for the youth.”
Penalties for this offence are a fine of up to $13,000 or 12 months imprisonment.
For further information please see the Youth and alcohol at home and on other private property brochure.
