Firearms recovered
Detectives from Bellerive CIB have recovered several illegal firearms from addresses on Hobart’s outskirts.
A search was conducted at an address in New Norfolk on 21 November 2012 by Investigators from Bellerive CIB and uniform officers from Bellerive, Bridgewater and New Norfolk.
Located in the main bedroom of the residence were a loaded Glock pistol with 2 full 17 shot magazines and a laser sight, a fully loaded double barrel shotgun and a loaded pump action shotgun with a fully loaded 5 shot magazine and a large amount of ammunition.
10 cannabis plants and a grow room were also located in the residence. One of the firearms has been identified as having been stolen from a Levendale property in 2010. The origin of the other two firearms is currently being investigated.
A 33 year old New Norfolk man was arrested and charged in relation to firearms and drug offences. He was bailed to appear in court on 17 December 2012.
Detectives also recovered a shortened double barrel shotgun in recent weeks. Investigations are continuing in relation to the circumstances surrounding the recovery of this weapon and Detectives are investigating the likelihood of this weapon having been used in serious crime in the south of the state in recent months.
Police would like to speak with anyone who may be able to provide any information regarding the most recent seizure of firearms.
