Firearms incidents
At about 7.15pm on Saturday night, 14th August 2010, two firearm shots were discharged into the front door and lounge room window of a residence in Armitage Crescent, Burnie. It is believed that no-one was home at the residence at the time.
At about 8.10pm that same evening four shots were discharged in Nixon Street, Devonport. Two of the shots were discharged into a garage door of a residence in that street. Five persons were in that residence at the time.
Witnesses observed a male person wearing a light coloured, “hoodie,” jumper carrying what appeared to be a shot-gun. He was last seen on foot running north on Nixon Street near the intersection with Oldaker Street.
“Firearms incidents such as this are extremely rare in the Western District. Given the circumstances of both incidents and the corresponding time gap between each, it is possible both incidents may be related,” Sergeant Woolley of Devonport Police Station said.
Any person who may have information relating to either incident is asked to contact Burnie CIB on (03) 6434 5291, Devonport CIB on (03) 6321 7536 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
