Firearm Offences, Devonport
A 20 year old man will face firearms related charges in relation to an incident at Devonport yesterday evening.
The man was preparing to board the Spirit of Tasmania ferry for the 7.30pm sailing to Melbourne on the evening of 23 September 2014, when his vehicle underwent a routine check by a police officer and security staff.
As a result, the vehicle was searched. Parts of a firearm and ammunition were located in the vehicle. The items were not capable of being discharged. Five knives were also located.
The 20 year old man was travelling alone, returning to his home in South Australia.
He has assisted police with enquiries. He has been charged with:
- Possess ammunition when not the holder of the appropriate firearm licence,
- Possess firearm part,
- Possess an unregistered firearm; and
- Unlawfully possess dangerous article in a public place,
and was bailed to appear in Devonport Magistrates Court at a later date.
