Fire assault charges
On the morning of Sunday October 2, 2011, members of Devonport CIB were called to the North West Regional Hospital, Department of Emergency Medicine in relation to an incident that occurred at a private residence in Shearwater, during an AFL Grand Final celebration.
It is alleged that during that night, an intoxicated man was sprayed with paint by two other men, against his will, after which one of the men ignited the paint. “The flames were extinguished by the victim shortly after ignition, he then left the scene alone and phoned for assistance,” said Detective Senior Constable Scott Poke.
The victim was later treated for injuries that were described as mild burns (1st – 2nd degree) to 4% of his body. He was admitted to hospital for further treatment. Two men were later arrested by Devonport Criminal Investigations Branch and detained for court.
