Shortly before midnight on Friday 2 March 2018, reports were received of a fire at the Allgoods store on Formby Road, Devonport.

Members of Tasmania Police and Tasmania Fire Service attended.

On arrival the building was fully engulfed in flames and totally destroyed.

A neighbouring property also sustained minor damage.

Due to the intensity and size of the fire residents of nearby houses were evacuated as a precaution, however no injuries were reported.

A fire scene watch was established and enquiries regarding the cause of the fire are continuing.

Damage to the building and stock is estimated at $2.5 milliion.
