Female bushwalker rescued – Meunna
A 39 year old American woman has been rescued from the Arthur River in North-West Tasmania today.
Tasmania Police responded to the activation of an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) in the Meunna area. As a result Tasmania Police ground units and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were dispatched to the area.
Police located a 39 year old woman from the USA, who had become stranded due to rising water levels in the Arthur River, while out bushwalking alone.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was used to airlift the woman to Wynyard.
The woman was uninjured and had been well equipped for her walk.
Sergeant Craig Harvey of the Wynyard Police Station said: “This incident highlights the importance of being well prepared for bushwalking trips. In this instance the carrying of an EPIRB has significantly assisted in the quick and successful resolution of the incident.”
