Fatal two vehicle crash on Channel Highway, Oyster Cove

A 71 year old man from Bruny Island died at the scene of a two vehicle crash which occurred on the Channel Highway at Oyster Cove on Thursday the 21st day of April 2016.  The crash occurred about 4.30pm.

 

At the time the deceased was the driver and sole occupant of green Ford Fairmont sedan.  This vehicle was travelling in a southerly direction towards Kettering.

 

Approximately 1km south of the junction of Waldie Drive, when exiting a right hand curve, the Ford has crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided with a blue Subaru WRX which was being driven in the opposite direction by a 21 year old man from Snug.  The driver was the only occupant of the Subaru.

 

The 21 year old Snug man was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital.  His condition is not regarded as life threatening.

 

The road was closed to traffic for a number of hours whilst investigations were made.  Traffic was diverted both north and south of the crash scene.

 

Crash investigators would like to speak to any person who may have witnessed the crash or seen either vehicle prior to the collision.
