A 78 year old Prospect man has died as the result of a two vehicle crash on the Midlands Highway, Jericho on Saturday the 7th day of December 2014 at 3.30pm.

The crash occurred when a 2008 silver Mazda hatch, which was travelling south bound and being driven by a 22 year old female from Newstead crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided with a north bound 2002 Holden Calais. The driver of the Holden was declared deceased at the scene.

The 77 year old female of the Holden was extricated from the vehicle by emergency services personnel and flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious but stable condition. The driver of the Mazda was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital by road ambulance also in a stable condition.

The police crash investigator, Senior Constable Kelly Cordwell would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash or seen the vehicle prior to the incident.
