Fatal two vehicle crash – Channel Highway
A 71 year old woman from Wattle Grove died in the Royal Hobart Hospital on 27th October 2015 following a two vehicle crash that occurred on Channel Highway at Huonville approximately 4.30pm that afternoon.
The deceased was the driver and sole occupant of a red coloured Mazda sports car travelling in a southerly direction on the Channel Highway at Huonville. At this time a grey coloured Land Rover vehicle was travelling in the opposite direction. The Land Rover vehicle was being driven by a 67 year old man from Sandy Bay.
A head-on crash occurred between both vehicles just north of the junction of Flood Road.
The deceased was transported from the scene to the Royal Hobart Hospital by rescue helicopter. Unfortunately, the deceased did not respond to medical treatment and was pronounced deceased a short time after arrival at the hospital.
The driver of Land Rover and his front seat passenger, a 66 year old woman, also from Sandy Bay, were conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital for observation.
At the time of the crash the weather was fine and the roadway was dry.
Channel Highway between Huonville and Ford Road was closed for approximately 4 hours whilst investigations were made.
