Fatal three car crash
An 18 year old male from Howrah died as a result of a three vehicle collision on Richmond Road Cambridge. The crash occurred at 9.12pm on Monday 6th June 2011, approximately 100 metres north of Hanslow Road.
The crash occurred when a red coloured Hyundai hatch, travelling in a southerly direction towards Cambridge, lost control whilst exiting a corner. The vehicle has crossed to the incorrect side of the road and struck a white VW van travelling north.
The VW was being driven by a 38 year old male from Campania.
The Hyundai and the VW have caught fire as a result of impact. The driver of the VW has freed himself and made it to safety.
A third vehicle, a green Hyundai also travelling south behind the red Hyundai has sustained minor damage due to debris. This vehicle was being driven by an 18 year old male from Richmond. Also in this vehicle was an 18 year old male passenger from Oakdowns.
The occupants of this vehicle were uninjured and freed the deceased from his vehicle.
The driver of the VW was taken by Ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he is reported to be in a serious condition.
The crash investigator, Sergeant Rod Carrick, would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash or seen the vehicle immediately prior to the incident.
