This morning 22/10/2015 at 7.36am Tasmania Police received a call to attend the scene of a single vehicle crash which had occurred on Stoney Rise Road, Devonport, at the junction with Lawrence Drive.

Emergency services attended and found a 54 year old male and sole occupant of a silver Mitsubishi Triton 4wd utility in a critical condition. The vehicle had travelled a short distance off the road and collided with a hydro pole, snapping the pole near the base. Paramedics attended to the male for considerable time before transporting him to the Mersey Community Hospital where he died a short time later.

At this point, police suspect the male may have suffered a medical episode. No other vehicle appears to have been involved. Speed, alcohol and any type of reckless driving do not appear to be factors. Traffic was diverted away from the scene for a short time while paramedics attended to the driver.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Crash Investigation Section and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

The deceased’s name has not been released.
