Fatal Single Vehicle Crash – Cockle Creek
Sadly a 28-year-old man from Dover has died in a single vehicle crash on Cockle Creek Road at Cockle Creek.
Police and emergency services were notified of a serious single vehicle crash involving a blue 2005 Honda Civic hatch on Cockle Creek Road, between Catamaran and the Boltons Green Campsite at Cockle Creek, about 11.10pm last night.
Police members from Dover, Cygnet and Woodbridge were dispatched to the scene along with TFS and SES volunteers. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter also responded due to the report of serious injuries to the driver. A single male occupant was located in the vehicle and declared deceased at the scene a short time later.
Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash, with Crash Investigation and Forensic Services attending the scene.
Senior Constable Adam Hall of Crash Investigation Services said ‘Initial investigations indicate the driver was travelling south on Cockle Creek Road towards Boltons Green campsite when he failed to safely negotiate the exit of a left-hand curve in the road. The vehicle lost control on the gravel surface, collided with the roadside drain before rolling. The use of alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor to the cause of the crash and the deceased was not wearing a seat belt’.
At the time the road was dry, weather was clear, and traffic was light. The cause of the crash continues to be investigated and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Anyone who saw the vehicle prior to the collision is asked to contact Senior Constable Nick Evans at the Dover Police Station on 131444 or by contacting Crime Stoppers on 1800333000 or crimestopperstas.com.au.
