On Tuesday 1st March 2011, at 9.05 pm, a fatal crash has occurred on Frederick Street, Launceston.

A Kingsmeadows man aged 89 years has been walking across Frederick Street after leaving the City Baptist Church.  A red Mazda sedan, driven by a 53 year old Launceston woman has collided with the man in the west bound lane.

The man was conveyed by ambulance to Launceston General Hospital in a critical condition and has died as a result of injuries received in the accident.

There were no other occupants in the Mazda sedan.

Traffic was diverted around the crash for 2 hours while Accident Investigation and Forensic Officers attended the scene.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this fatal crash.
