Fatal Pedestrian Accident – West Tamar Highway, Sidmouth
At about 6:10pm on Friday 11 July 2014 a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the West Tamar Highway a short distance north of Collins Lane, Sidmouth in the municipality of the West Tamar.
A 15 year old female had disembarked from a bus. She walked around behind the bus and commenced to walk across the highway. The female was hit by a Nissan Pulsar Sedan being driven in a southerly direction by a 47 year old male from Ravenswood.
The female was treated by Tasmanian Ambulance personnel at the scene. She was taken to the Launceston General Hospital in a serious condition. The female died in the ICU ward at the Laucneston General Hospital later that evening.
The scene was attended by Tasmania Police , including crash investigation services as well as Tasmanian ambulance and SES.
The West Tamar Highway between Valley Road and Spring Hill Road was closed for several hours whilst police investigate the scene.
Police are investigating the crash on behalf of the Coroner.
