Fatal Motorcycle Crash – Brooker Highway Glenorchy (21 June)

An 18 year old youth from Taranna died in the Royal Hobart Hospital as the result of a motor cycle crash on the Brooker Highway at the junction of Elwick Road at about 5.40pm on Sunday the 21st day of June 2015.

At the time the deceased was riding a red Hyosung motor cycle north bound on the Brooker Highway approaching the junction of Elwick Road. There was a male pillion passenger on the motor cycle.

At the junction of Elwick Road the motor cycle collided with the driver’s side of a blue Suzuki Swift which was turning right to travel south bound on the Brooker Highway.

The deceased and his pillion passenger, also an 18 year old male, were conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital by road ambulance. The deceased’s condition deteriorated. He passed away a short time after arrival at the hospital.

The driver of the Suzuki, a 39 year old Howrah man, was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital. His condition is not regarded as serious. The other passengers in the vehicle, two females, aged 40 and 16 respectively were not injured.

Crash investigators would like to speak to any person who may have witnessed the crash or seen either vehicle prior to the collision.
