Fatal Motorbike Crash – Brooker Highway Montrose
At about 4.00pm on Thursday 24th February 2022 police responded to a report of a motorbike crash on the Brooker Highway Montrose.
A 28 year old male rider from Claremont was riding a blue Yamaha motorbike north on the Brooker Highway crossing the Berriedale Road overpass, when he has failed to take the right hand bend.
The bike has been seen to leave the road surface and cross into the grass verge between the Brooker Highway and the slip lane out of Berriedale Road. The bike has continued across the slip lane, onto the slip lane grass verge and down an embankment colliding with a tree, snapping it off and continuing further north coming to rest at the base of the embankment. The rider was thrown from the bike.
The crash was witnessed by an off-duty police officer and one of the first attending was an off-duty paramedic. Tas Ambulance, police, forensic and crash investigation attended the scene.
The rider suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Initial indications are that speed was a direct contributing factor to the crash.
Police would like to hear from any witnesses who may have seen the bike travelling north prior to the crash, or directly witnessed the crash. Any drivers that have dash cam footage are also asked to contact police.
