At approximately 4:50pm on Friday 16/1/2015 a fatal motor vehicle crash occurred on Lillydale Road between Rocherlea and Lillydale.

An 18 year old male provisional driver was driving a black Holden utility travelling in a southerly direction on Lillydale Road. As the driver negotiated a sweeping left hand bend he lost control of the utility and entered into the lane of oncoming traffic.

The utility struck a yellow hatch and then lost control and crashed into a silver VW Golf travelling in the opposite direction.

The front of the silver Golf impacted with the driver’s side door of the utility and both vehicles sustained significant damage. The driver of the utility was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

Lillydale Road was closed for several hours whilst Crash Investigators and Forensic Police examined the scene. Enquiries into the crash are continuing.

Police would especially like to speak to the male driver of a small truck that stopped and spoke to police near the intersection with Pipers River Road shortly after the crash.
