At around 5.00pm on Thursday 20 November 2014 a vehicle that was travelling East on the Lyell Highway towards Derwent Bridge has failed to negotiate a left hand corner and left the road colliding with trees. The 69 year old male driver was killed in the accident. A female passenger received only minor injuries. The couple were travelling from South Australia.

Members from Tasmania Ambulance, SES, Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Police attended the scene.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the accident.
