At approximately 6.00pm today 26/1/2014 a single vehicle crash occurred on the Murchison Highway at Oonah, 4km south from Lances Road which resulted in the death of a 26 year old Somerset man.

It appears that the driver and sole occupant of a red Toyota Hilux 4wd flat tray was travelling through a series of curves when the driver lost control on a right curve. The left travelled off to the left side of the road colliding with an embankment before rolling.

The driver who it appears was not wearing his seat belt was thrown out of the vehicle. He suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene.

The highway was closed for about 3.5 hours whilst investigations were carried out and the scene cleared.

Police from Wynyard, RPOS and Forensic Services attended along with local a fire service.

Police would like to speak with anyone who may have observed the Toyota travelling north on the Murchison Highway between Waratah and Yolla to contact them on 131 444.

Police have not released any names at this stage and an inquest has been opened into the matter.
