Fatal Mining Incident – Queenstown

At approximately 9am on Friday 17th January 2014 emergency services personnel were called to a workplace incident at Copper Mines of Tasmania site on Penghana Road, Queenstown.

Unfortunately a 53 year old man died of injuries received.

Investigations into the incident are continuing. Worksafe Tasmania Mine Inspectors attended the scene as well as Police Forensic officers and the Coroner.

Police can confirm that the name of the deceased man is Michael George WELSH.

Mr WELSH, aged 53 is a long-time resident of Queenstown.  He is married with a number of children and grandchildren.

His family have requested privacy at this time.
