Fire, police and ambulance services attended a fatal structure fire at McKellar Street, South Hobart, reported at approximately 4:30am today.

The fire completely consumed the dwelling and an 81-year-old man was found deceased inside the house.

The man was the only occupant of the house at the time of the fire and no one else was injured.

Significant damage has been caused to the house, however an estimate of the damage is not available at this time.

Tasmania Fire Service personnel, the Fire Scene Examiner and Tasmania Police Forensic Services remain at the scene conducting investigations.

Preliminary enquiries would indicate there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire, however at this time a cause of the fire has not been determined.
