Fatal crash – Penquite Road, Newstead
Sadly, an 80 year old Newstead woman has died following a single vehicle crash in Launceston this afternoon.
At about 2:30pm on Tuesday 7 November 2017 a 1993 green Toyota Corolla Seca was travelling north on Penquite Road, Newstead, near the intersection with Campbell Street. The driver was an 80 year old woman from Newstead and was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The driver crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and collided head on with a power pole.
The driver was transported to the Launceston General Hospital in a critical condition, but sadly was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.
Police are investigating if a medical condition was the cause of the accident and it is not believed that speed or weather conditions were a factor.
