Fatal crash on West Mooreville Rd, Burnie
Police can confirm that the 23-year-old Hobart woman who died in a single vehicle crash on West Mooreville Rd near Burnie last night was Magella Luisa Faye Tate.
Her 20-year-old passenger, from the wider Burnie area, remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Initial police investigations have determined that neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors to the crash.
Ms Tate was the driver of the vehicle which went over a small embankment and hit a tree.
She was a fourth-year medical student at the University of Tasmania. She was residing in Burnie while completing a practical component of her course.
The two had been at sports practice in Ridgley.
The crash was reported to police just after 8pm last night.
The road was closed for three hours while police, fire and ambulance attended.
