Police and emergency services are at the scene of a fatal crash involving two vehicles on the Murchison Highway, south of Somerset.

A blue Toyota Corolla travelling in a northerly direction on the Murchison Highway has collided with a grey Holden Captiva station wagon travelling in a southerly direction just after 6.00pm this evening. The male driver and only occupant of the Toyota sedan has died as a result of injuries sustained.

Several occupants of the Holden station wagon are being treated as a result of injuries sustained.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation, however speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors.

The Murchison Highway will remain closed between Hoares Lane and Back Cam Road, Somerset, until further notice.

All motorists are urged to avoid the area as there will be expected traffic delays.
