Fatal Crash – Midland Highway (Southern Outlet), Launceston

Sadly, a 53 year old woman has died following a five vehicle crash on the Midland Highway, Launceston, this morning.

 

Police were called to a five vehicle crash on Midland Highway, Launceston, under the Westbury Road overpass, about 8.15am.   The crash occurred in the northbound lane when a number of vehicles slowed in heavy traffic.

 

A taxi that was heading north collided with the rear of one of the vehicles, pushing it into another vehicle.  The taxi, containing a 53 year old female passenger and her carer, was struck from behind.  The woman was transported to the Launceston General Hospital where she died several hours later.

 

Crash Investigation Investigators were notified and have attended the scene and a report will be completed for the Coroner.

 

Acting Inspector Nick Clark of Launceston Police has asked that all motorists drive to the conditions and allow sufficient distance between vehicles to allow time to safely stop in case of any emergency situation.
