Tasmania Police attended a fatal crash between a Ford Falcon sedan and a fully laden log truck on the Midland Highway at 1.30pm yesterday, approximately 1km south of Ross.

From enquiries at the scene it appears that the north-bound Falcon crossed lanes on a right hand sweeping corner into the path of the south-bound log truck.

It is believed that both occupants of the car, the male driver and the female front seat passenger, were killed instantly.

The truck driver was not injured.

Tasmania Police, Tasmanian Ambulance Service, Tasmania Fire Service and the State Emergency Service attended the scene.

The highway was fully closed at times and remained partially closed until approximately 10pm while the scene was forensically examined and the vehicles were removed.

The investigation is continuing.
