At about 5.12pm on Friday 7 February 2014 a Mazda sedan travelling north on the Midland Highway at Powranna has crossed the carriageway and collided with a tree.  The 33 year old male driver from Hobart has died at the scene.

A 33 year old female passenger has been transported to the Launceston general Hospital in a critical condition.

The Midland Highway was closed to traffic for 4 hours.

An investigation is being conducted by Tasmania Police for the Coroner.
