Police were called to a fatal two vehicle crash on Lilydale Road, Turners Marsh, between Pipers River Road and Prossers Road at 2.35pm this afternoon.   Traffic was diverted away from the scene for several hours.

The crash occurred between a Kia Sorrento Station Wagon and a Mazda 121 Sedan. The driver of the Mazda has lost control on the wet road crossing to the incorrect side of the road colliding with the front of the Kia. The driver of the Kia has taken evasive action to avoid the other vehicle however has been unable to avoid the collision with the Mazda.

The 50-year-old woman driver of the Mazda died as a result of the crash. The driver of the Kia, a 28-year-old man did not sustain any physical injuries.

Preliminary investigation by Crash Investigation Services has indicated that speed and alcohol do not appear to be a causal factors.
