Fatal Crash, Frankford Road

At 12:59 Thursday 28th January 2016, Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service and Ambulance Tasmania were called to attend a crash between a campervan and a truck at Frankford Road, 10 kilometres west of Frankford.  Conditions at the time were very poor with heavy rain and hail.  The section of road was windy.

The male driver of the campervan, from NSW, was found deceased at the scene.  His female passenger was conveyed by ambulance and is being treated at Launceston General Hospital for minor injuries.  The driver of the truck was uninjured.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck lost control of its trailer in the poor conditions. The trailer crossed to the wrong side of the road and collided with the front of the campervan, destroying the right hand side.

The road will remain closed for several hours while the scene is examined and the large vehicles/debris are removed.

Anyone who observed either vehicle in the area just prior to the crash are asked to contact Western Crash Investigation Services on 131 444.

All drivers are reminded to adjust their driving according to the conditions, including when it rains after a hot spell causing road surfaces to be particularly slippery.
