Fatal Crash, Bass Highway, Leith | Update
At 3.31pm yesterday, Tuesday 29th August, Emergency Services attended the scene of a fatal crash on the Bass Highway Leith. A 76-year-old woman from Forth has died at the scene as a result of the injuries sustained.
Preliminary investigations which were assisted significantly by information received from witnesses indicate the cyclist was travelling west on the Bass Highway and veered into traffic. The woman was subsequently struck by a west bound Toyota Corolla.
The scene was attended by police officers from Western Road and Public Order Services, Devonport, Ulverstone, Crash Investigation Services, Forensic Services, Ambulance Tasmania and SES.
Westbound traffic was diverted along Leith Road and Lillico Road for approximately three hours whilst the crash scene was investigated and cleared.
Further investigations are continuing and a report is being prepared for the Coroner.
