Fatal Crash Arthur Highway
A 55 year old woman from Singapore died as the result of a single vehicle crash on the Arthur Highway approximately 2 kilometres south of Copping on Friday 30th November 2012 at 4.30pm.
At that time a red Kia Carnival van (passenger mover) was being driven north bound on the Highway by a 62 year old male from Singapore. There were six (6) people in total in the van. All the occupants were from the same family and were visiting Tasmania from Singapore.
Approximately 2 kilometres south of Copping the vehicle has negotiated a closed right hand curve. On exiting the curve the vehicle has veered into the table drain on the left hand side of the road. It has struck a concrete culvert and travelled down a substantial slope before hitting a tree and coming to rest.
The deceased, who was seated in the rear right of the van died at the scene. All the other occupants were conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital by ambulance.
Three female passengers (ages being 46, 50 and 58) were admitted for further treatment. The driver and front seat passenger (a female aged 22) were discharged after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
Initial investigations reveal the deceased may not have been wearing her seat belt.
The crash investigator, 1/C Constable Kelly CORDWELL, would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash in particular the occupants of a black sedan which was following the Kia Carnival. This vehicle stopped and the occupants assisted at the scene but left prior to the arrival of emergency services.
